Porch Beats & Neighborly Vibes: OBceans Celebrate Global Play Music On The Porch Day
On Saturday, August 30th, from 4PM to 7PM, the Ocean Beach community will join thousands of musicians across the globe for Play Music On The Porch Day — a worldwide celebration of music and community. The idea is simple: if everyone, everywhere, went outside on the same day and played music, we could unite the world through the universal language of sound. From balconies in Barcelona to porches in Portland, artists of all kinds will step outside to share their gifts, and here in Ocean Beach San Diego, we’ll add our own coastal flavor. Bring Your Own Chair, settle in from afternoon to sunset, and feel the vibes on the 4900 block of Coronado Ave.
This year’s Ocean Beach live music gathering features local OB singer-songwriters who embody the spirit of folk-pop, roots, interspiritual music, and community artistry.
Heatherlyn (heatherlynmusic.com), an internationally seasoned folk-pop and interspiritual artist, and Jeff Jacobs (jeffjacobsmusic.com), known for his heartfelt, roots-driven style, will take the stage individually and as the duo Earth Sky Reunion, weaving harmonies and stories that celebrate the heart of OB — connection, creativity, and neighborly vibes. They will be joined by Travis Oliver (travisflatpicking.com), an acoustic guitarist, singer, and songwriter who specializes in flatpicking guitar and roots music. A longtime member of the Ocean Beach community, Travis blends fiery guitar picking, tone-rich melodies, and heartfelt ballads that reflect his Southeastern U.S. musical roots. Since 2012, he has been a fixture in the San Diego live music scene, performing at local venues and festivals, and sharing the stage with nationally recognized artists such as Tyler Grant (Grant Farm, Bill Nershi Band), John Mailander (Billy Strings, Bruce Hornsby), and Kellen Asebroek (Fruition).
At 5:30 PM, the mic opens to the community for an Open Mic session, inviting neighbors, friends, and local artists to share their own songs, poems, and sounds in the spirit of inclusivity. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or simply someone with a tune in your heart, Play Music On The Porch Day is about celebrating participation, creativity, and connection — not perfection. The golden OB sunset will provide the perfect backdrop as voices and instruments blend into the evening air.
